What is a grievance?

A grievance occurs when there has been a violation of the contract.

Email the committee chair for specific dates/meeting links.
Committee members help develop plans to address grievances, help draft correspondence with admin throughout the grievance process and approve of proposed solutions to grievances.
Past Grievances​

2023: Assessment Proctoring Not Included in 13.5 Instructional Hours Grievance - CAVA denied that this was a grievance but recognized the burden it was placing on teachers and was willing to strategize on how to provide relief. CAVA later rescinded this offer.

2023: Denial of Withdrawal Work Record Task Referral Grievance - A member was denied a task referral for downloading work summary items for a student withdrawal. This was resolved and CAVA agreed to process withdrawal work record task referrals.

2023: San Diego PD Grievance - Indoor temperatures for the San Diego PD exceeded safe and comfortable working conditions. CAVA submitted a draft of written acknowledgement, but would not agree to CVEU's suggestions.

2023: Salary Step Placement Grievance - Unit members were paid according to the incorrect step on the salary schedule. This was resolved and members were awarded backpay plus an additional $100.
